Meet the Mentor: Kate Warner

Introducing Kate Warner, Chief Financial Officer at Ohana Mua, and Potentia Mentor!

Kate brings over 25 years of experience in strategic financial management, with a distinctive track record in start-ups. She has built financial systems and controls from the ground up and helped guide early-stage companies into mature, successful businesses. Her achievements include leading a private equity exit and project managing two ERP system implementations. Throughout her career, Kate has served on multiple Executive and Management Team Committees and is deeply passionate about developing, coaching and mentoring her teams. She particularly enjoys drawing on her experience to support and mentor women as they grow into leadership roles and advance in their careers.

Why do you think it is important to have mentors?

Top leadership is still male dominated and I believe having a female mentor to support young and upcoming women is really needed in the Finance field. As a woman, we have to balance so many balls and learning from more experienced women is invaluable.

What qualities do you value in a mentee?

Someone who is eager to learn and with whom I can connect. I would love someone who is humble, yet ambitious and values their career.

What do you hope to achieve through mentoring a woman in finance?

I would really love to make a difference to my mentee and watch her grow in her role. I hope she leaves our sessions, feeling more empowered and understood. I hope to pass on the knowledge and experience I have gained through my career.

As John Crosby said, “Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” I hope to achieve all of this with my mentees.
